September 22nd is the first official day of fall and we’re starting to see the whispers of a changing season. As our students walk around the school grounds they can observe that the leaves are begining to change in color, the acorns on the playground are becoming plentiful and there have been one or two wooly worm sightings! Soon the farms surrounding our school community will begin to harvest the corn and our Chapel Campus cows will be released into the field to glean the leftovers. If you have a Chapel Campus student you probably already know that the comings and goings of the beloved “playground cows” are always noted. This is a splendid time of year to unplug, get outside and explore our rural community.

You and your HFYH student can enjoy ushering in the autmun with these 3 fall activites.

Apple Picking

Very near to HFYH is Country Side Orchard. They have “U-Pick” apples and lots of wide open spaces to let your littles run wild! You may even be greeted by their friendly and well-mannered dog. Like them on Facebook to learn about their upcoming events like their “Sunday Social” coming up this Sunday, September 25 from 1-3pm.

Bring your bushell home and make some applesauce. Many of our classrooms made applesauce recently and I’m sure your little chef would love to show you how!

Wesselman Woods

Make a stop into Wesselmen Woods Nature Preserve. Enjoy the Nature Playscape, walk the wooded paths and let your child get curious about nature. Although you cannot remove anything out of the preserve, here is a Scavenger Hunt checklist that you and your child can use to spot the treasures of the Fall season!

*Printable from soeasybeinggreen-blog.com

“The Welborn Baptist Foundation Nature Playscape at Wesselman Woods provides play opportunities for children to follow their own ideas and interests within a wooded landscape consisting of rocks, and fallen logs, and native plants. With just over five-acres of natural landscape, our Nature Playscape is one of the largest in the country.”
