Meet Erica Einstein

In addition to the rich experiences our HFYH students have in their classrooms, our Chapel Campus students enjoy monthly visits to Erica Einstein’s science lab. In these sessions, our young scientists practice lab procedures and perform hands on experiements using the scientific method. Parent volunteers are welcome to sign-up to help make the day run smoothly. I never turn away helpers! Please email me at erica@hfyh.org if the sign-up is full and you’d like to participate. The Benefits of Inquiry Based Science

1. Fostering Curiosity and Critical Thinking: Science is all about exploring, questioning, and understanding the world. When we engage preschoolers in simple scientific activities—like observing how plants grow or experimenting with water and sand—we’re nurturing their innate curiosity. These activities encourage them to ask questions like, “Why do leaves change color?” or “What happens when we mix these two colors?” Answering these questions helps develop their critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.

2. Enhancing Language and Communication Skills: Talking about science helps expand a child’s vocabulary. Words like “absorb,” “evaporate,” or “magnet” become part of their everyday language. As they discuss their observations and findings, they practice forming sentences, explaining their ideas, and listening to others. This enhances their communication skills and builds confidence in expressing their thoughts.

3. Boosting Cognitive Development: Science activities often involve hands-on experiments and exploration, which can be incredibly stimulating for young minds. Whether it’s watching a volcano erupt with baking soda and vinegar or learning about the weather by observing rain and sunshine, these experiences help develop their cognitive abilities. They learn to make predictions, observe outcomes, and understand cause-and-effect relationships.

4. Encouraging Teamwork and Social Skills: Many science activities can be done in groups or pairs. Working together on a project, like building a simple structure with blocks or conducting a nature scavenger hunt, fosters teamwork and collaboration. Preschoolers learn to share, take turns, and listen to others’ ideas, all while having fun!

5. Instilling a Love for Learning: Science can be incredibly fun and engaging! By introducing preschoolers to science in playful and interactive ways, we help them see learning as an enjoyable and exciting adventure. This positive experience can lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning and exploration.

Science for preschoolers is all about exploration and wonder. By making it a part of their daily lives, we help them discover the magic of the world around them and cultivate their natural curiosity. Happy exploring!
